Content is NOT King (or Queen)

content is not king (or queen)

“Content is King” has become a common expression in marketing circles – so when I came across Chris Brogan’s Content is Not King blog post, it really resonated with me.

Social Media: Changing the Way We Do Business

November 16th, 2009

social media is changing business

Social media is changing the way organizations communicate with their audiences. In a recent blog post, Mashable highlights 4 ways social media is changing business:

  • Changing the mindset from purely “selling” to making connections
  • Enabling small campaigns and one-to-one communication as an alternative to a mass marketing
  • Promoting transparency and encouraging companies to “be themselves” as opposed to controlling their image and message
  • Facilitating engagement through accessibility

Will Social Media Become Less Social?

filtering to gain social network and social media value

This visual is the 1st in a series inspired by David Armano’s Six Social Media Trends for 2010.

Will social media become less social? Filtering has already become an essential part of social media listening – With so much social noise, you have to be able to fine tune the signals in order to gain some value.

To some degree I think features like Twitter Lists and tools like Tweetdeck (with their ability to streamline conversations) help make us more social. Fewer, more meaningful social network connections may actually result in all of us becoming more engaged.

This visual was inspired by a cool quote from a The Church of the Customer Blog:

“When times are good, participate – When time are tough, participate more.”
